Zalto begins a new chapter

The Austrian glassmaker is known for its exceptionally light, mouth-blown wine glasses. Now Zalto has applied the same idea to a different world: whisky, cognac, aged rum and other fine spirits. Rather than adapting an existing wine glass, it created a purpose-built shape intended to balance alcohol with delicate aromas.

More than 100 prototypes

For years Zalto's Sweet Wine glass was a familiar recommendation for whisky and cognac. During new tastings, however, one unusual shape revealed a more focused, balanced aromatic impression. That discovery led to more than 100 prototypes developed and assessed with experienced spirits professionals.

Why does the glass look like this?

The straight sidewalls are intended to focus aromas. The longer cylindrical upper section creates some distance between spirit and nose, helping the finer notes of fruit, spice and wood share attention with the alcohol. A short stem and delicate mouth-blown crystal give the glass a distinctive feel in the hand.

One glass, many possibilities

Single malt whisky, bourbon, cognac, armagnac, aged rum, calvados and mezcal are all worth exploring. There is no need to own an expensive collection: a familiar bottle is a fine place to begin.

Do you really need another whisky glass?

Not necessarily. You can enjoy a good dram in your regular glass. Yet, if you care about aroma and small details, a different shape can make tasting a more interesting experience. Cask does not promise to transform every drink, but it invites a new perspective.
